I’ve been back from Spain for a month and a half, but I’m still thinking about the cities, the sea, the food and the people! Many of you have already seen my postcards from Girona, snapshots of Madrid, posts about Barcelona’s “Block of Discord”, Catalonian wine country and more. For Travel Photo Thursday, I want to share some photos of Eixample Barcelona, the center of the city’s“raux i seny” design culture and most of its Moderniste architecture.

I think I must have done almost exactly the same walk as many of your photos look very familiar. I love the detail in the balconies and the tile work is lovely. I think I’d learn to drive a motorcycle if I lived in one of Europe’s big cities. At least you might be able to find parking.
Wouldn’t that be fun to have a Vespa to get around in?
I just commented on Jan’s post how funny it was that my latest blog is also about architecture, and how I would like to visit Gaudi’s city to see his works! And now, yours is also about Barcelona 🙂 Though yours is not about Gaudi, I like the architecture shown too. I think I am homesick for Spain, even though I haven’t been there yet!

The taste of tapas and wine lingers in my memory, that’s for sure.
I’ve flown in to, out of, and through Barcelona several times but never actually had a chance to visit the city. It truly looks like a beautiful city I really need to explore one of these days!

I love the architecture in Barcelona….It’s like nowhere else on earth.
I had high expectations for Barcelona’s architecture because of all the Gaudi designs, but it was more impressive than I expected.
I loved all the red/white bike rental stations in Barca. So easy to pick up a bike and drop it off at any of the other sites in the city. Also really dug their recycling program. Forward thinking people!
I’ll have to try the bike rentals next time. Fun!
Time for me to return to Barcelona. I only recognize the Paseo de Gracia.

I like the motorbikes – need to get over my fear of driving a scooter, especially for South East Asia. Not sure of whether I’d be more scared to rent one in SEA or Europe.
Never had a scooter in Europe, but I’d like to give it a try.
Beautiful walk and pictures, Cathy! Another post that makes me miss Spain and disappointed we didn’t make it to Barcelona last time. I love the architecture and the tile work on that building. We saw many of those booksellers in Madrid too and made me wish I knew Spanish.

I love it when you go somewhere and then you can’t get it out of your head (for the right reasons) when you return home. We moved to Turkey because of that but we also feel like that about Vilnius in Lithuania. Years since we were there and we still talk about it. Great set of photos. 🙂

After my week in Barcelona it became my favourite European city. Vera and I just had so much fun here 🙂
After just a couple of days there, the hubby and I were wishing we could live there for a while.:)
Just looking at these pics make me feel so culturally deprived. They are so magnificent and bold and I miss all of the wonderful architecture of the old world. I am so grateful to be going back to Europe next week so that I can just soak all of it in again. Beautiful job, Cathy!

Barcelona to me looks like Paris– before it goes all weird with the Gaudi architecture.
And you’ve done my favorite thing to get acquainted–take a walk through the city. Since I haven’t been to Barcelona, I appreciate your bringing it to me.
Some of the architecture definitely reminds me of Paris! Walk, walk, walk — my favorite mode of transportation in cities like Barcelona!

Beautiful street scenes, Cathy! Those book stands remind me a little bit of Paris. I can relate to your thinking about Spain constantly. It’s been two years for me and I still feel affected by that country.
