TravelSupermarket’s fun new contest focuses on the essence of color in travel photos. In the Capture the Colour competition, bloggers share their photographic interpretations of these colors: white, blue, green, red, and yellow. Winners in each category will receive an iPad3 and one overall winner will receive £2000 for travel. I was honored to be nominated by Vi of Short Travel Tips, Joya of Be a Travel Bee, and Leigh of Hike Bike Travel to participate. Thanks, ladies!
A Story in White
If only this picturesque old town hall in Hadlyme, Connecticut could tell us tales from days gone by! The whimsical scarecrow bridal couple in front of it is hinting at a happy story about this day’s big event. The real bride (my beautiful stepdaughter) and her groom are yet to arrive, but the mood is set and love is in the air!
It’s “Bleu” to Me
Some of my earliest impressions of Paris were formed by the Evening in Paris perfume my mother kept on her dresser. The cobalt blue bottle with its silver label attracted me at a young age and has remained engraved on my memory. Whenever I had a chance, I would carefully remove the top and then sneak a sniff of the perfume. As I watched the light show on the Eiffel Tower during my first Paris visit, I was thrilled when the lights turned to the same wonderful shade of blue that I remembered. I could almost smell the fragrance.
Discovering Green in Houston
So you don’t think that the big oil city of Houston, Texas could possibly be green? I was pleasantly surprised during my March visit to find that there was much more green space than I expected. I hiked along the paths of Buffalo Bayou Park, enjoyed one of the city’s farmer’s markets at City Hall, and strolled around Kinder Lake at Discovery Green as well as other gardens and parks. How about these giant green cowboy boots? Houston may be greener than you think!
Rodeo Reds
There was bronc riding, chuck wagon races, mutton bustin’, BBQ ribs, fried Oreos & a performance by country music star Blake Shelton at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. There was also a colorful display of fireworks that lit up the Reliant Center from center stage all the way into the nosebleed seats where I was sitting among the local cowboys.
Curious Yellow
What’s up with this guy in yellow? I came across this curious exhibit while on a tour of the Celebrity Millennium cruise ship while it was at port in San Francisco. Perhaps, like me, he’s always ready to fly somewhere.
Now I’d like to invite these travel bloggers to join in the Capture the Colour competition!

Love your choices and especially the blue Tour d’Eiffel. It’s strange how fragrance can affect our memories and perception.

Nice pictures Cathy, but yellow is my favorite

Thanks, Vi — I thought it was pretty cool & unusual, too.
Like Mette, I was thinking the same thing about your mom’s favorite perfume. Such a strong memory, isn’t it? Love your color shots, Cathy and the memories they evoke. Especially the church and the Eiffel Tower. And I’m surprised by that green in Houston. The rodeo red is totally unexpected. Is that guy real? Thanks for nominating me, hope I find the right colors to share. Good luck!

Thanks for your comments!
Great selection Cathy! I think your childhood story brought us all back to when we would sneak a sniff of our mom’s perfume
I actually can imagine how wonderful this experience was for you.

Thanks, Debbie. Funny how some memories stay with us our whole lives.
Well I can’t say that I used to steal sniffs of my Mom’s perfume, but it’s still a gorgeous picture. The red is probably my favorite one though, possibly because I have some Blake Shelton playing as I’m reading this.

Tough to choose one from the group but I have to go with the Eiffel Tower blue.
Thanks, Barb. I just loved that shade of blue!
I love the red at the Rodeo, but that flying guy puzzles me. Why is he hanging there? Is he stuck or is he happy? So, many questions.:)

I think I made a similar comment before but that Rode is certainly not the homespun, down home typr of thing the word usually puts me in mind of! Great, simple idea for a photo contest.

The Houston Rodeo was not like anything I expected either. Certainly not “homespun’!
I love all of these, but I especially love the Rodeo Red! I lived in Houston for 2 years in the mid-90s and was always fascinated by the Rodeo and how devoted all of the residents of Houston are to it.
