TravelSupermarket’s fun new contest focuses on the essence of color in travel photos. In the Capture the Colour competition, bloggers share their photographic interpretations of these colors: white, blue, green, red, and yellow. Winners in each category will receive an iPad3 and one overall winner will receive ยฃ2000 for travel. I was honored to be nominated by Vi of Short Travel Tips, Joya of Be a Travel Bee, and Leigh of Hike Bike Travel to participate. Thanks, ladies!

A Story in White

Hadlyme, Connecticut Public House

A Town Hall Wedding

If only this picturesque old town hall in Hadlyme, Connecticut could tell us tales from days gone by! The whimsical scarecrow bridal couple in front of it is hinting at a happy story about this day’s big event. The real bride (my beautiful stepdaughter) and her groom are yet to arrive, but the mood is set and love is in the air!

It’s โ€œBleuโ€ to Me

Eiffel Tower

La Tour Eiffel en Bleu

Some of my earliest impressions of Paris were formed by the Evening in Paris perfume my mother kept on her dresser. The cobalt blue bottle with its silver label attracted me at a young age and has remained engraved on my memory. Whenever I had a chance, I would carefully remove the top and then sneak a sniff of the perfume. As I watched the light show on the Eiffel Tower during my first Paris visit, I was thrilled when the lights turned to the same wonderful shade of blue that I remembered. I could almost smell the fragrance.

Discovering Green in Houston

Giant Green Boots, Houston

Houston Greenery

So you don’t think that the big oil city of Houston, Texas could possibly be green? I was pleasantly surprised during my March visit to find that there was much more green space than I expected. I hiked along the paths of Buffalo Bayou Park, enjoyed one of the city’s farmer’s markets at City Hall, and strolled around Kinder Lake at Discovery Green as well as other gardens and parks. How about these giant green cowboy boots? Houston may be greener than you think!

Rodeo Reds

Houston Rodeo

Rodeo Reds

There was bronc riding, chuck wagon races, mutton bustin’, BBQ ribs, fried Oreos & a performance by country music star Blake Shelton at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. There was also a colorful display of fireworks that lit up the Reliant Center from center stage all the way into the nosebleed seats where I was sitting among the local cowboys.

Curious Yellow

Yellow Flyer on Celebrity Millennium

What’s Up?

What’s up with this guy in yellow? I came across this curious exhibit while on a tour of the Celebrity Millennium cruise ship while it was at port in San Francisco. Perhaps, like me, he’s always ready to fly somewhere.

Now I’d like to invite these travel bloggers to join in the Capture the Colour competition!

  3. Nice pictures Cathy, but yellow is my favorite ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Like Mette, I was thinking the same thing about your mom’s favorite perfume. Such a strong memory, isn’t it? Love your color shots, Cathy and the memories they evoke. Especially the church and the Eiffel Tower. And I’m surprised by that green in Houston. The rodeo red is totally unexpected. Is that guy real? Thanks for nominating me, hope I find the right colors to share. Good luck!

  5. Great selection Cathy! I think your childhood story brought us all back to when we would sneak a sniff of our mom’s perfume ๐Ÿ™‚ I actually can imagine how wonderful this experience was for you.

  6. Well I can’t say that I used to steal sniffs of my Mom’s perfume, but it’s still a gorgeous picture. The red is probably my favorite one though, possibly because I have some Blake Shelton playing as I’m reading this.

  7. I really like the green photo, but probably because I love shoes! All great photos though!

  8. Great photos, Cathy – I love the town hall wedding – what a fun picture! Thanks for tagging me!

  9. Stunning photos my friend…certainly worthy of winning an iPad or the grand prize!! Love the Paris blue!!

  10. Gorgeous photos!! I actually love the white. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed how calming that is. I think I have too many blue photos in my own collection. And your red is rocking!

  11. Beautiful collection, Cathy! I love the Blue Eiffel Tower and the story with your mom’s perfume. What a great memory. The red looks like a fun show though.

  12. That’s my favorite white photo so far. Good picks!

  13. Cathy, These photos are superb! I love the colors, particularly your Parisian blue. I am flattered to be invited to participate. Your series has raised the bar quite high.

  14. Very creative photos. I especially love the blue Eifel Tower and the red rodeo.

  15. Nice shots, Cathy. Good luck with the contest.

  16. wow- the red rodeo shot is stunning. Great picks, Cathy. I’ve seen a lot of bloggers doing this contest, I need to check it out.

  17. WOW! These are some awesome color examples. I love the little couple outside of the church. And that shot in Paris is stunning!

  18. Great photos Cathy and very original! I love the one with the Eiffel Tower and the chapel one is a beautiful white. However, I have to go with the green one. The boots are original and creative. Well done!

  19. Tough to choose one from the group but I have to go with the Eiffel Tower blue.

  20. I love the red at the Rodeo, but that flying guy puzzles me. Why is he hanging there? Is he stuck or is he happy? So, many questions.:)

    • I wish I had taken some time to learn what that was about. I was just moving along snapping some photos of the art!

  21. Beautiful, all! It’s difficult to pick my favorite, but the white, blue, and red really stand out to me. Love the vignettes that go along with them, too!

  22. Nice selection! And very creative too. Not necessarily what I would have expected for the colors.

  23. What a nice selection of shots. I love your white shot and think that one is my fave. The boots are pretty cool too. Thanks for participating Cathy.

  24. I love this fun contest that is going on – it is so much fun to see all these pictures!! And I love that 2 of them come from Texas!!!!

  25. Beautiful photos, Cathy! I think I like the green boots one best. Nice job!

  26. I think I made a similar comment before but that Rode is certainly not the homespun, down home typr of thing the word usually puts me in mind of! Great, simple idea for a photo contest.

  27. I love all of these, but I especially love the Rodeo Red! I lived in Houston for 2 years in the mid-90s and was always fascinated by the Rodeo and how devoted all of the residents of Houston are to it.

  28. All gorgeous photos but I think I like the red best, I would love to have seen that!

    • Thanks, Ayngelina. I was really surprised when that all happened after the rodeo events. Very cool experience.

  29. Loving the rodeo shots. Whenever I take photos in places like that I get the exposure all wrong!

  30. What a great sense memory with the color blue and the Eiffel Tower! Thanks so much for sharing!

  31. WHat an interesting selection of photos, especially the pic from Houston! Of course I was thrilled to see the Eiffel Tower… Thank you for tagging me, I look forward to browsing through my memory card. ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. Love the town hall wedding – too cute!

  34. I also love the photo of the Eiffel Tower. I wish they’d change the colour of it more often!
