I did when I saw this double rainbow in South Dakota.
We were headed east on Interstate 90 on a rainy day when we first caught sight of the rainbow on the left side of the highway (photo below). Driving a bit further, we saw the double rainbow to our right and caught this shot.
There’s something about bales of hay that captures my attention, especially the round ones like those in the picture. To me, the lone bale in the foreground looks as though it’s always been there and will never go away.
Was there a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow? I don’t know, because we just kept on driving.
This is my submission for this week’s Travel Photo Thursday on the Budget Traveler’s Sandbox website.

Gotta love them rainbows. did you find the pot of gold???
Sorry to say we didn’t stop to check it out. This might have been the one…….
Lucky, you are to catch a double rainbow. Thanks for sharing!
Lucky indeed. Maybe I should have bought a lotto ticket that day.
Double rainbow?!?! You are lucky to have seen this! I am still waiting for my double rainbow 🙂
It was pretty cool the way the rainbow was right over the road — and a double one, at that!
I think I have seen more rainbows – double and otherwise – in New Zealand than anywhere else. I love the emptiness of the landscape in your photo too.
Glad you like the landscape in the shot — I really do, too. I think that that wide open spaces like that can be so beautiful.
Lovely photo! Rainbows are so beautiful.
Thank you, Sophie! 🙂
Beautiful photo! I grew up in the prairies and love seeing rainbows over the prairies.
Thanks, Laurel. There’s something very special about the prairies.
I really do like rainbows. There is something so beautiful and peaceful about them. Just wish I could find that darn pot of gold! Then they would be perfect.
I think we’ve been looking for that same pot of gold! Maybe someday. In the meantime, at least we can enjoy the beauty of the rainbows.
I’d say you were lucky to get such a great rainbow shot! It does look like there is a pot of gold at the end. Probably a leprechaun too. On another note, have you seen the double rainbow guy on youtube? If not, you really should. Trust me. Just do a search on Youtube for “double rainbow guy”.
Ok.. I have to add the link to the video because apparently there are a lot of re-creations of this video on YT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI. Enjoy!
Hilarious! I’d say he was pretty excited to see that double rainbow 🙂 Imagine if he had seen a leprechaun, too. Thanks for the link!
That is stunning!! You can never have too many rainbows in your life.
Thanks for another great week of Travel Photo Thursday.
Thanks very much, Nancie! In fact, it occurs to me that this is the 2nd rainbow photo that I’ve submitted for your Travel Photo Thursday!
Rainbows remind me of Dolly Parton. Google “Dolly Parton rainbow” and read what she has to say… 🙂
Great photos Cathy!
Googled. Now I’m going to think about Dolly Parton whenever I see a rainbow. Here’s the quote, folks: “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” Thanks for the tip!
O_O
Dude! WOW! No Way, a double rainbow…
We kept thinking we would see a double rainbow when we are in Hawaii. No luck yet.
A double rainbow is a pretty cool sight. Sorry Hawaii hasn’t delivered on that count!
This is such a beautiful picture of a rainbow. As I look at that picture..that barrel of hey that is sitting there in the pasture looks like a pot of gold. If you look at it long enough.!..Does anyone else see it too?..Nice pic Cathy!
Thanks, Senaf — Indeed, I do think it looks like a pot of gold! If only…….
What a fantastic photo. I love how wide open that field is and the contrast with the sky.
Thanks so much, Scott! I love the wide open field, too. I wish I could describe the feeling.
This is a gorgeous photo. There is something about this scenery that makes me feel calm and serene. If you don’t mind, I wouldn’t mind doing a painting of this scene – it is just so beautiful.
Thanks, I’d be honored if you did a painting. Please share with us when it’s done!
Wow, awesome shot! It looks like it has the power to burn the place where it hits the ground!
Thanks, Mark. I like that!
love this! that bale of hay IS the pot of gold! i love hay bales, too – prob from growing up on a farm. what a beautiful shot!
Thank you very much!
That’s an awesome shot! The roll of hay is definitely a nice touch.
Thanks! I think the hay bale actually makes the shot for me.
Nice picture in an otherwise empty plain of Dakota. The bale that you mention plus the double rainbow sure give us a great scenery. You can really never tell what mother nature can sometimes throw at us, we should at least be ready for our camera.
