Boston Skyline from the Rooftops

Boston Skyline

I never met a city I didn’t like. Although none are without flaws and problems, I’m always able to find something that appeals to me. Then there are the cities that I absolutely love. Boston is one of those.

It’s a city of architectural contrasts where the old mingles with the new. Historic buildings that figured prominently in early American history such as the Old South Meeting House, Old North Church, and Faneuil Hall coexist with modern office buildings and hotels.

In these photos, I tried to capture some of that contrast. The photo above of the Boston skyline at sunset was taken from across the harbor over the rooftops of East Boston.

Thanks, Michael. I’d like to go back soon, too. Unfortunately it’s not in the cards for the near future — but you never know!

Fantastic shot Cathy! I’ve always wanted to visit Boston. One of these days when I’m home I’ll have to grab a cheap flight, and go for a few days. Halifax is less than a 2 hour flight.

Thanks for another great week of Travel Photo Thursday.

I like that one, too, I think it’s so cool to see how these old, historic buildings are so distinctive even with skyscrapers towering over them.

Super shot and nice description of why you like Boston too. I’ve only driven through it so one day – preferably in the fall- on the way to see the New England colours – I would like to stop and get to know the city.

Isn’t New England gorgeous in the fall? Love being there at that time of year. Thanks for the comment and compliment!

Beautiful photo! We only spent a few days in Boston, but I would love to spend at least a few months there.

Thanks, Christy — I think it would be great to spend a few months in Boston. I’d love to live like a local there!

I love Boston! I only spent one sunny, long weekend there last May, but I loved everything about it: the contrast of old and new, the Italian food, the sea food, the markets, the walking around the older parts of the city. I’m not sure how much I’d like it in the cold, long winters, but for visiting it seems the perfect city.

Your picture of the old state house and its reflection… for a second I thought it was the reflection of Trinity church and Hancock tower 🙂 Silly me!

Frank and I love love love this pic! We are thinking we’d love to get our hands on a copy so we may proudly display it in our home. Hint hint.

A city of old and new mixed always makes for good photos. Never been to Boston but maybe one day… Love the shot – the city looks like it is alive in the last of the suns rays.

I’ve never been to Boston but am DYING to go! Besides that I know I will love it- they have Wagamamas there and it’s closer than going to London for a fix!

I completely agree with you Cathy. There’s always something interesting in a city that will endear you to it. I love arriving in a city that isn’t particularly pleasing to the eye at first – they’re always the cities we remember with the most fondness. Love the pic by the way. That’s a beautiful sunset.

Thanks, Julia. I also think that some people make assumptions about certain cities based only on a few news reports or from having driven through it on the highway at some point.

Very interesting perspective – and photo. I also agree that there probably isn’t a perfect place, but that each place has something special, each town/city a particular aspect to discover and so on. Congrats on the photo once again!

Boston is one of the coolest cities I’ve ever been to. Visiting and exploring turned out to be much more fun that we thought it would be. THE American College Town; I read that there were 63 Colleges and Universities in and around Boston. Lots of young people; the city has a definite vibe.
