Travel Photo Thursday – Trip Reflections

Glacier National Park, Montana

Glacier National Park, Montana

In September of 2008, we took a road trip from San Francisco through Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana, and part of Canada. There were so many memorable places and sights that we saw along the way; from northern Nevada’s high desert sparseness, through the golden wheat fields and surprising lava fields in Idaho, to the spectacular drives, hikes and wildlife of both Glacier National Park in Montana and Waterton Lakes National Park just across the border in Alberta, Canada.

I don’t know why it took me so long to visit Glacier National Park. My advice: if you love moutains, lakes, wildlife and fresh air, put Glacier on your itinerary. You should also know that wildlife includes grizzly bears. Although I was on high alert and a little nervous wherever we walked in the park, we didn’t see any grizzlies. However, at Waterton Lakes in Alberta we saw a black bear from a safe distance. But at Glacier, we got up close to amusing mountain goats, wild horses, and many smaller critters as we drove and hiked paths to hidden lakes and other vista points.

Fabulous shot Cathy. I lived in Banff, Alberta back in the 1970s, and never ceased to be amazed by the mountains and the wild life.

Thanks for posting to Travel Photo Thursday.

Thanks, Michael! I’m glad I shared it now because your comment makes me feel very good! I actually did submit it for a yTravel Blog photo contest — alas, I didn’t win!

What else can I add other than another WOW! great shot. Because it is. I always prefer shots that are not enhanced by Photoshop or any other kind of photo software. As to visiting Glacier National Park, as you mentioned bears, I think I would pass. Hahahaha.

Thanks so much for the WOW, Michael! About the bears, they tell you make sure you make noise (like clapping) when hiking so the bears won’t come by you. I was so nervous, I was clapping all the time in some spots.

Fantastic photo! I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve only driven through Glacier National Park, even though I grew up very close to it in Canada. It’s on my list for next summer. I’ve heard it’s fantastic, and I LOVE Waterton (the national park that connects to it on the Canadian border).

Beautiful photo! That must have been an amazing trip! Bears are a big worry of mine as well yet when I was a kid we would go walking through the woods all the time and never give a second thought to the fact that there were bears there – now I’d be singing, clapping, stomping and making enough noise to scare all wildlife away. 🙂
